DEPENDENT VISA IN SWEDEN
A dependent visa in Sweden is a type of visa that allows the spouse, registered partner, or unmarried child under the age of 21 of a person who has a residence permit in Sweden to join them in the country.
To be eligible for a dependent visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- Your spouse or partner must have a residence permit in Sweden.
- You must be the spouse or registered partner of the person with the residence permit.
- You must be the unmarried child under the age of 21 of the person with the residence permit.
- You must have a valid passport.
- You must have medical insurance that covers you for the duration of your stay in Sweden.
- You must have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family during your stay in Sweden.

When should apply for the permit for my spouse?
We advise that you both apply jointly if you haven’t already done so for a student visa or permit. You will have the opportunity to include any family members while completing the student permit application. The Migration Agency will handle the permits jointly if you do this. As a result, your spouse will typically receive their application sooner than if you submitted it individually.
If you already hold a visa for Sweden, your partner will require a separate application. In general, it will take a little bit longer to process this than if you had applied jointly. The current processing times are available here.
Will my partner be able to work?
In most cases, yes. The Migration Agency generally will approve a work and residence permit for the accompanying spouse. Providing that the spouse’s permit is approved for at least 6 months.
Financial Proof:
You will need to prove that you have at least an additional 3 500 SEK for each month that your spouse will live with you in Sweden. If you will be bringing 1 spouse and 1 child for 1 month, you will (based on the 2020 financial figures) need to show that you have at least:
